SB Lawyers represented a client facing a particularly difficult and emotional situation: a terminal illness diagnosis coupled with the need to finalise her divorce.

This case required swift action to resolve both divorce and financial matters within a significantly compressed timeframe.

The situation and challenge

Our client was diagnosed with a terminal illness and wished to finalise her divorce before her passing. This created a time-sensitive situation requiring an expedited legal process.

Standard divorce proceedings in the UK typically take around nine months due to the mandatory 20-week waiting period between the initial divorce petition and the application for a conditional order.

This statutory waiting period posed a significant challenge given our client’s urgent need for a finalised divorce.

Our approach as divorce solicitors

Recognising the exceptional circumstances, SB Lawyers applied to the court to expedite the divorce proceedings.

We presented a compelling case for special consideration, and the court granted our request, allowing us to fast-track the process.

The outcome and impact

Through our proactive and efficient approach, we successfully obtained a Final Divorce Order and a Financial Clean Break Order—severing all financial ties between our client and her husband—within just three months of her initial instruction.

This rapid resolution provided our client with the peace of mind she desperately needed, knowing her divorce was finalised and her financial affairs settled.

At SB Lawyers, we understand the importance of compassion and efficiency in family law, especially when clients face urgent personal circumstances.

We were happy to alleviate a significant source of stress for our client and provide her with the closure and security she needed.
